Jul 29 – The Lord Who Walks Among His People!

“And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day.” (Genesis 3:8)

The Lord is One who walks among His people. He comes down to visit the homes of His children and their places of worship. Whenever two or three gather together in His name, His presence descends among them. The Lord Himself comes and begins to walk in their midst.

The Lord has promised, “In every place where I record My name I will come to you, and I will bless you.” How wonderful it is that the Almighty God, who created heaven and earth, chooses to dwell among men and walk among them in order to bless them!

Will the Lord walk even into a lions’ den? Certainly He will. He came down to help Daniel and shut the mouths of the lions. He walked in the fiery furnace as the Deliverer alongside Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. When He came to earth as Jesus, He walked in Solomon’s Porch. (John 10:23)

After His resurrection, clothed in a robe and girded with a golden band, He was seen walking in the midst of the golden lampstands. (Revelation 1:13) While these lampstands represent the churches, they also symbolize those who have surrendered themselves to shine for the Lord.

“Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you.” (Isaiah 60:1)

Who can walk among the lampstands? In the Tabernacle, only the priests could minister among the lampstands. From the day Jesus rose from the dead, He was declared our Great High Priest. (Hebrews 5:10) The risen Christ continues to walk among us as our High Priest, empowering us to shine for His glory.

What does Jesus do as He walks among the lampstands?

First, He causes us to shine. He is the true Light who enlightens every person who comes into the world. He continually pours out the oil of anointing so that His people may burn brightly. He strengthens the dimly burning wick and rekindles the gifts of the Spirit within us.

There is something else He does as He walks among the lampstands. He trims away the blackened wick. Wherever He finds self-centeredness, pride, arrogance, or self-exaltation in our lives, He lovingly removes and corrects these things so that our light may shine more clearly.

Children of God, we have been called to bring the light of the Lord into a world that lies in darkness. May we allow Him to walk among us, refine us, and make us shine for His glory.
