Jun 28 – The Dove that Dwells in the Secret Places!
“O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the cliff…” (Song of Solomon 2:14).
The Lord desires that you live a life hidden in Christ. Many people display themselves outwardly and speak proudly. They say, “Look at me, look at my beauty, my status, my education, my titles, my position, my fame.” They seek to appear great before men. Such people have no part in heaven.
In the Sermon on the Mount, Lord Jesus taught the blessed life of hiding oneself in Christ. Whether in giving, praying, or fasting, the Lord taught that a person should remain hidden.
The Bible says: “But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.” (Matthew 6:3).
“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” (Matthew 6:6).
“But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” (Matthew 6:17–18).
If the Lord is to use you, you should be like the dove that hides itself in the clefts of the rock and in the secret places of the cliffs (Song of Solomon 2:14). Hide yourself and reveal Christ. As John the Baptist said, “He must increase, but I must decrease,” hide yourself and exalt Christ. Magnify Him alone.
When the Lord trained Elijah, much of that training was in learning to live a hidden life. Immediately after Elijah boldly appeared before King Ahab, the Lord told him: “Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan.” (1 Kings 17:3).
Those who seek fame and recognition cannot quietly serve in hiddenness. But the Lord expects from you a life that remains hidden like a humble worm.
As children of God, it is not enough merely to know how to live—we must also know how to remain lowly. We must learn to accept lack, to live hidden, and to remain content in whatever condition the Lord places us.
Verse for further meditation: “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.” (Psalm 27:5).
