Jun 21 – Without Spot!
“Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless” (2 Peter 3:14).
We are drawing near to the end of the world and the coming of the Lord. It is not enough merely to know that His coming is near. It is very important that we prepare ourselves for it. Peter gives us some counsel regarding this.
First, we must be without spot. The world, the flesh, and the devil continually try to stain the garment of salvation in our spiritual life. We, who are to shine in holiness as the Bride of Christ clothed in white garments, must guard ourselves from being defiled by the world. It is necessary that we wash and cleanse our robes through the blood of Jesus.
We must avoid relationships that defile the soul, conversations that pollute holiness, and actions that trouble the conscience. Instead, we must continue steadfastly in prayer, Bible reading, and the fellowship of God’s children. Whoever desires to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. That is why the Apostle John says, “My little children, do not love the world or the things in the world.”
Not only that, we must also be blameless. What is fault or blemish? It is living below God’s standard and expectation. Everything contrary to the Word of God is fault. When children write their lessons incorrectly, we correct them — sometimes even with a cane — so they will not repeat the same mistake.
Likewise, when the Lord sees fault in us, He allows chastening. The Bible says: “For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives…. If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?” (Hebrews 12:6,7).
Thirdly, Apostle Peter says that we must be found in His presence in peace. When we are saved, we receive the peace of God (Romans 5:1). But we should not stop there. No matter how fiercely storms may rage in our lives, how violently the winds may blow, or how troubled the sea may become, we must fully trust in the Lord and preserve the peace we have received.
Children of God, let us, as the Scriptures say, be found without spot, blameless, and in peace!
Verse for further meditation: “And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.” (1 John 2:28).
