Jul 08 – The Sound of the Harp!

“And I heard a voice from heaven, like the voice of many waters, and like the voice of loud thunder. And I heard the sound of harpists playing their harps.” (Revelation 14:2)

Among the musical instruments mentioned in the Bible, the harp holds a special place. It was one of the principal instruments played by David. He declared: “O God, my God, to You I will praise with the harp.” (Psalm 43:4)

As David played the harp, he experienced the powerful presence of God descending upon him. Not only that, but gifts of revelation were often released through this ministry of music. He testified: “I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will disclose my dark saying on the harp.” (Psalm 49:4)

The harp was not merely an earthly instrument; it also belongs to heavenly worship. In the book of Revelation, we see the inhabitants of heaven praising God with harps on several occasions.

In the days of Samuel, harp music was closely associated with the prophetic anointing. Samuel told Saul: “You will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with a stringed instrument, a tambourine, a flute, and a harp before them; and they will be prophesying.” (1 Samuel 10:5)

Before Elisha delivered a prophetic message, he desired to hear sacred music. Therefore he said: “Bring me a musician.” As the musician played, the hand of the Lord came upon Elisha, and he prophesied the word of God to the kings (2 Kings 3:15).

I once observed a gifted woman of God who ministered with a remarkable prophetic anointing. Before delivering prophetic messages, worship leaders would spend time singing praises and playing musical instruments before the Lord.

As they worshipped, the Spirit of God would come upon her. Regardless of how many thousands had gathered, she would patiently minister to individuals one by one, speaking words of encouragement and prophetic insight. I often marvelled at how God could use such a simple and uneducated servant so powerfully for His glory.

I have also known another servant of God who would take up his accordion before preaching. As he sang under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, the presence of God would fill the gathering. Then he would preach with prophetic authority. Many hearts would be convicted, and people would surrender their lives to the Lord in genuine repentance.

Children of God, learn to praise the Lord with all your heart. Worship opens the door to His presence. As you exalt Him, He draws near. As you honour Him with songs of praise, He refreshes, strengthens, and speaks to His people.

Verse for further meditation: “Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; praise Him with the lute and harp!” (Psalm 150:3)
