Jun 23 – Emmaus!

“Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem.” (Luke 24:13)

Life is a journey. It is true that every person born into this world begins a journey. But what matters most is where that journey ends.

One day, a man began his journey alone from Jerusalem toward Jericho. But sadly, on the way he fell among thieves. His condition became miserable. Here, we see another two men traveling from Jerusalem to a village called Emmaus.

Jerusalem represented the temple, the people of God, praise and worship, songs of God, and all the blessings of God. Yet these two men left such a glorious place of God and journeyed toward Emmaus village. They travelled with sorrowful faces, fearful of the Jews, and troubled about what danger might come upon them.

But at that very moment, unexpectedly, Lord Jesus met them. Yet they did not recognize that it was Jesus. Their eyes were clouded with sorrow. Jesus lovingly asked them what they were discussing as they walked along sadly (Luke 24:17).

See how deeply the Lord cares for those who drift away from Him, and how lovingly He inquires about them. The Lord does not desire to abandon people who walk in fear, guilt, confusion, and sorrow. His loving arms reach out to embrace them!

You too may be walking through this world with a sorrowful face. You may be journeying in confusion and discouragement. Yet there is a Lord who comforts and strengthens you. There is a Lord who meets you and leads you into the right path. Today Jesus desires to meet you. He wants to wipe away your tears and turn you back into the straight way.

On that day, the disciples on the road to Emmaus considered Him a stranger. The Bible says: “Then He said to them, ‘What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?’ Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, ‘Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days?’” (Luke 24:17,18).

But He was not a stranger. He came near as a loving friend and transformed their lives. Children of God, surely, He will transform your life also.

Verse for further meditation: “Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him.” (Luke 24:31).
