Jun 27 – Blessed Be The Lord!
“Blessed be the Lord, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised.” (1 Kings 8:56).
When Solomon built and dedicated the glorious temple for the Lord, he offered not only burnt sacrifices, but also sacrifices of praise—the fruit of his lips—with great love and gratitude. He praised the Lord who had granted rest to His people Israel.
Yes, rest and peace are great blessings that come from the Lord. Have you wholeheartedly thanked the Lord who has filled your heart with the peace of God that surpasses all understanding?
During the days of King David, there were many wars. Many mighty men died in battle, and much blood was shed. But those wars came to an end in David’s time. Solomon’s kingdom became a kingdom of peace.
Moreover, the people of Israel were protected from all their enemies and enjoyed rest. They dwelt safely and peacefully in their homes. Solomon did not forget the great love the Lord had shown to Israel, and therefore he offered thanksgiving to God.
From morning till night, count the blessings and goodness the Lord pours into your life each day, and praise Him. A godly hymn says:
“Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.”
So thank the Lord for the rest and peace He has graciously given you.
Look at the life of Christ. Praise and thanksgiving were continually found on His lips. The Bible says: “He took the seven loaves and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and they set them before the multitude.” (Mark 8:6). When He gave thanks, a miracle took place.
The apostle Paul too walked faithfully in the footsteps of Christ. During a dangerous sea voyage, when the ship was caught in a storm and breaking apart, Paul strengthened everyone around him. The Bible says: “Therefore I urge you to take nourishment, for this is for your survival, since not a hair will fall from the head of any of you.’ And when he had said these things, he took bread and gave thanks to God in the presence of them all; and when he had broken it, he began to eat. Then they were all encouraged, and also took food themselves.” (Acts 27:34–36).
That thanksgiving strengthened those who had lost courage. The example of the man of God giving thanks before eating inspired others also to praise God.
Children of God, miracles happen through thanksgiving. Weak hands are strengthened, and grace increases. Does not the Lord say: “Whoever offers praise glorifies Me”? (Psalm 50:23).
Verse for further meditation: “To Him who alone does great wonders, for His mercy endures forever.” (Psalm 136:4).
