Jun 18 – Not Forgotten!
“Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God.” (Luke 12:6)
How wonderfully the words of the Lord comfort us! The Lord said, “Consider the birds of the air.” Yes, when we observe the birds of the air, faith arises within us that our Heavenly Father, who watches over them, will care for us with even greater love and attention.
Among birds, the sparrow is one of the weakest. Its wings are not beautiful like the peacock’s. Its voice is not sweet like the cuckoo’s. It is very fragile and often seeks refuge near human habitation.
Yet the Lord Himself cares for these sparrows. Though the world may buy and sell them cheaply, not even one of them falls to the ground without the will of God.
Like the sparrow, there are thousands of birds in the world — small and large, each with different habits and characteristics. Yet our Heavenly Father feeds every one of them daily. They neither worry about the future nor store things away.
Children of God, that same God knows how to provide for you. His eyes and thoughts are upon every detail of your life. What a glorious truth this is!
Did He not sustain the multitudes of Israel in the wilderness? Did He not rain manna from heaven every day? Did He not cause quail to fall around their camp? (Deuteronomy 2:7)
Look at Elijah. During the famine, the Lord miraculously fed him through ravens. For water, God provided the brook Cherith. When the famine grew more severe, the Lord sustained His prophet in the house of the widow of Zarephath by causing the flour and oil not to fail. When Elijah was in the wilderness, God even sent an angel to feed him. Oh, how great is the love and compassion of our Lord!
Now come to the New Testament. When Jesus Christ preached day and night in the wilderness, He fed five thousand people. With five loaves and two fish, He provided food for the entire multitude. Yes, that same God is able to meet all our needs.
Therefore, the Apostle Paul wrote: “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
Verse for further meditation: “Oh, how great is Your goodness, Which You have laid up for those who fear You, Which You have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men!” (Psalm 31:19)
