Jun 12 – Miracles!

“And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.” (Acts 6:8)

Stephen, who became a great instrument in bringing revival to the early church, rose from a very ordinary position. He was one of the helpers in the first church, appointed to oversee the distribution of food. Yet the Lord used Stephen mightily and powerfully. The reason was that the fullness of God rested upon him. He was filled in three important areas.

First, we read in Acts 6:5 that Stephen was full of the Holy Spirit. Receiving the Holy Spirit is a foundational experience. But living continually filled with the Spirit is a higher and deeper experience.

When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are filled with divine strength, gifts of grace, and the gifts of the Spirit. That is why Lord Jesus said: “But tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49). If you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you too will receive power to perform signs and wonders.

Secondly, Stephen was full of faith (Acts 6:8). The Bible says: “But without faith it is impossible to please Him.” (Hebrews 11:6). When we pray, we must pray with faith. We must ask with confidence that we will receive. Then those things shall be granted to us.

Stephen held firmly to the Lord in faith. Knowing that all things are possible through faith, he exercised that faith and performed miracles. If you truly believe the Lord, no mountain will be able to stand before you, and no obstacle will be able to stop you.

Thirdly, Stephen was full of power. Every one of us needs power. We receive that power through the anointing. The Bible says: “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38)

This power is heavenly power — the very power of God. The same Lord who filled Stephen today desires to fill you also with the Holy Spirit, with faith, and with power. He will fill you until your vessel overflows. Is He not the Lord who fills all in all?

Children of God, the One who used Stephen is not partial. He is able to use you as well.

Verse for further meditation: “And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.” (Mark 16:20)
