Jul 01 – The Voice of the Lord!

“Today, if you will hear His voice: ‘Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, as in the day of trial in the wilderness.’” (Psalm 95:8).

The Lord desires to speak with you. He desires to quicken you, guide you, and lead you in His ways. Therefore, be attentive and obedient to the voice of the Lord.

Psalm 29 is a special chapter devoted to the voice of the Lord. There we read: “The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders; the Lord is over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars, yes, the Lord splinters the cedars of Lebanon.” (Psalm 29:3–5).

Be prepared to hear the voice of the Lord. Adam and Eve heard the voice of God in the cool of the day (Genesis 3:8). Scientists say that the coolest part of the day is between three and four o’clock in the morning. The Lord Himself has said: “Those who seek me diligently will find me.” (Proverbs 8:17).

Rise early to hear the voice of the Lord before the noises of the world begin to fill your ears and minds. Praise and worship Him so that His heart may be delighted.

The prophet Elisha longed for God’s presence before bringing the Lord’s message to the people. The Bible tells us that when a musician played, the gracious presence of the Lord came upon him, the prophetic anointing rested upon him, and then he prophesied (2 Kings 3:15).

We also read about Balaam in the Scriptures. Desiring to hear God’s voice and speak His word, he built seven altars, offered sacrifices to the Lord, and waited to hear from Him (Numbers 23:1–2).

Today, the sacrifice that the Lord desires is a broken spirit. “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit.” (Psalm 51:17). The sacrifice that pleases Him is the sacrifice of praise—the fruit of our lips. When you offer thanksgiving with a broken and contrite heart, the presence of God will surround you. The gentle voice of the Lord will resonate within your spirit.

In the midst of thousands of voices clamouring around you, the Lord will awaken your soul so that you may recognize and say, “This is the voice of my Beloved.”

Children of God, the Son of God comes down to commune with you and rejoice in your fellowship. The Holy Spirit desires to speak to you in His still, gentle voice. Keep your heart open at all times to that loving voice.

Verse for further meditation: “I sleep, but my heart is awake; it is the voice of my beloved! He knocks, saying, ‘Open for me, my sister, my love, my dove, my perfect one.’” (Song of Solomon 5:2).
