Oct 26 – Mount Zion!

“Then I looked, and behold, a Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand, having His Father’s name written on their foreheads.” (Revelation 14:1)

Every nation has a capital city. India has New Delhi, the United States has Washington, Sri Lanka has Colombo, and Pakistan has Islamabad. The capital is the centre from which the nation is governed and where its laws and decisions are established.

In heaven, there are many glorious places spoken of in Scripture—the new heaven, the new earth, the New Jerusalem, the sea of glass, and the dwelling places of the Father. Yet Mount Zion holds a place of supreme glory and significance.

It is there that the presence of God is revealed in a special way. Christ, who has been exalted to the right hand of the Father, reigns in glory.

From His throne, He exercises sovereign authority over all creation. We lovingly call Him, “Our Father in heaven,” and lift our prayers to Him. Among all the glorious realities of heaven, Zion is presented in Scripture as a place of great majesty and glory.

The Lord declares through Isaiah: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone.” (Isaiah 28:16) Christ is that precious Cornerstone. Upon Him the great spiritual dwelling of God is being built. One day, we will live and rejoice with Christ there throughout the ages.

The prophet Isaiah also looked forward to this glorious hope. He declared that he and the children whom the Lord had given him were signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord who dwells on Mount Zion (Isaiah 8:18). What a wonderful destiny awaits the children of God!

Jesus once stayed for a time in the home of Martha and Mary, where they welcomed Him. He stayed at the house of Zacchaeus for a day. On the cross, He promised the repentant thief that he would be with Him in Paradise that very day.

But with us, Christ will dwell forever and ever. We will live with Him, and He will remain with us throughout eternity.

That is why the psalmist could joyfully declare that he would dwell in the house of the Lord forever. (Psalm 23:6). Pointing us towards this heavenly citizenship, the Apostle Paul wrote: “Our citizenship is in heaven.” (Philippians 3:20)

Children of God, millions of saints will one day gather around Christ and rejoice with Him on Mount Zion. You too must stand there with the Lamb, surrounded by thousands upon thousands of angels, in that glorious heavenly country.

May you be found among those who dwell forever with Christ upon His holy mountain!

Verse for further meditation: “Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill?” (Psalm 15:1)
