Sep 21 – Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled!

“David said to Saul, ‘Let no man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.’” (1 Samuel 17:32)

The appearance of Goliath, the Philistine warrior, struck fear into the hearts of all the Israelites. But David was not intimidated when he saw him. He even encouraged others, telling them not to be afraid and not to lose heart.

It is natural for every person to encounter anxieties, hardships, problems and trials in life. But as children of God, we are called not to be overcome by troubles & circumstances, but to overcome them by faith. The person whose eyes are fixed not upon the problem but upon the Lord will ultimately walk in victory.

Saul and his soldiers looked at Goliath and saw a huge giant standing before them. David, however, put the Lord before his eyes. Therefore, Goliath appeared very small in comparison. David saw that the army of the Lord was on his side. He firmly believed that victory would come to him in the name of the Lord. He did not dwell upon the possible outcome; he fixed his thoughts upon the power of God.

David did not allow himself to become discouraged. Instead, he spoke words of victory in the name of the Lord. They were not merely words of confidence; they were words of faith:

“This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.” (1 Samuel 17:46)

Is your heart troubled because of many problems? Has someone in the world risen against you? Has even a close and trusted friend turned against you and plotted against you?

Jesus says: “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.” (John 14:1) And Scripture declares: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31) “Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect?” (Romans 8:33)

Dear children of God, do not allow your heart to be overcome by fear. Look at your problems through the eyes of faith and declare: “In the name of Jesus, who has overcome the world, I come against you. You cannot prevail against me. I give thanks to the God who gives me the victory.”

As you place your confidence in the Lord, you will surely see strongholds broken and obstacles brought down. The power in the name of Jesus Christ is sufficient for you.

May the Lord strengthen every troubled heart today and give us the faith to face every “Goliath” with courage, knowing that the battle belongs to Him.

Verse for further meditation: “The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” (1 Samuel 17:37)
