Sep 01 – Barely Escaped!

“But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled; My steps had nearly slipped.” (Psalm 73:2)

The Lord has graciously given feet to every one of us. We ought to be thankful to Him for this blessing. When we see the difficulties faced by people who do not have the use of their legs, our hearts naturally go out to them with compassion.

Yet, we also have a responsibility. We must guard our feet with reverence and watchfulness, and not allow them to go wherever our minds and flesh desire. We should give priority to walking to church and worshipping the Lord rather than giving ourselves over to movies and the pleasures of the world.

The two words “stumbled” and “slipped” are used in the verse above. When there is no strength in the body, the feet may stumble. And when the ground is slippery or covered with moss, it becomes slippery for the feet. To walk through this sin-filled world without stumbling or slipping, we need strength from above. When we receive that heavenly strength, our feet will become like the feet of a deer.

Once, a young woman climbed onto a rock against the advice of her parents. Within a few minutes, she slipped from the rock and fell down. She was badly injured and cried out in pain. Dear children of God, whenever your heart warns you that you are standing in a place where your feet could slip, run away from that place immediately. Joseph did exactly that. Even though it meant leaving his garment behind, he fled from Potiphar’s wife.

But look at Eve. She stood there quite casually, talking with the serpent. Even when the serpent began speaking words that could make her doubt the Lord, she did not rebuke it. She did not desire to seek counsel from her husband or from the Lord. Instead, she made her own decision and ate the forbidden fruit. She fell into sin herself and also caused her husband to fall.

The Psalmist says: “He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps.” (Psalm 40:2)

The Lord has lifted you up. He has washed and cleansed you through the blood of Calvary. He has given you the forgiveness of sins and the joy of salvation. From now on, you should never again remain in a place where your feet may slip.

David says: “I thought about my ways, And turned my feet to Your testimonies.” (Psalm 119:59) Dear children of God, turn your feet toward the Lord’s testimonies.

Verse for further meditation: “He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep.” (Psalm 121:3–4)
