Oct 17 – For Righteousness’ Sake!

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:10)

When you fear the Lord and receive His righteousness, you may have to face Satan’s fierce opposition. As the sworn enemy of God, Satan becomes a determined adversary of everyone who desires to live righteously. He brings temptations, trials, and struggles. He creates every kind of circumstance that could discourage and break the hearts of God’s children.

My father served in government service for nearly sixteen years. Because he refused to accept bribes, did not run after wealthy and influential people, and conducted himself with truthfulness and integrity, he was often mocked and ridiculed.

Because he chose not to join the trade union there, he was isolated and treated harshly. He also faced the anger of several officials because he refused to participate in various religious rituals, including Ayudha Puja.

But the Lord embraced him and comforted him. He assured him: “You are blessed, My son. Because you have suffered for My name’s sake and for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed.” The Lord has promised the kingdom of heaven to those who suffer for righteousness’ sake.

Perhaps you too have been rejected by society because of your love for the Lord and your commitment to righteousness and justice. In some villages, Christians are oppressed through various forms of social pressure and exclusion. I have seen many sisters who accepted Christ from non-Christian religious backgrounds being rejected by their husbands and oppressed by their families, leaving them struggling and distressed. Do not be afraid. The Lord will uphold your cause and bring justice to you.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego stood firmly for righteousness. With holy boldness, they declared that they would not bow down before any idol or lift their hands in worship to anyone other than the Lord. Because of their stand, the fiery furnace was heated seven times hotter than usual. But the Son of God came down into the furnace and walked with them. He protected them so completely that the fire could not harm them. Even today, their names are remembered among the blessed and faithful people of God.

If you stand boldly for the Lord, the Lord will stand even more boldly for you. The apostle Paul, whose name appears among the great heroes of faith, did not hesitate to speak of those who suffered for righteousness’ sake. Scripture says that the world was not worthy of such people.

Yes, they stood firmly for righteousness. They understood that life does not end with this world. They possessed a great and living faith that, beyond this earthly life, they would inherit the kingdom of heaven.

Children of God, stand firmly for the Lord. Be zealous for righteousness. Do not compromise your faith merely to gain acceptance, position, comfort, or worldly approval. You are blessed when you stand for righteousness.

Verse for further meditation: “If we endure, we shall also reign with Him.” (2 Timothy 2:12)
