May 27 – Choose One Thing!
“I offer you three things; choose one of them for yourself, that I may do it to you.” (2 Samuel 24:12)
The Lord says, “Choose one thing.” Many things may be placed before us: Problems and struggles, Temptations and traps or Different paths and options. But the question is: What will you choose?
The Lord lovingly comes near and says, “Choose one thing, and I will do it for you.” So there is no need for confusion or anxiety.
On Mount Carmel, Elijah challenged the people: “Will you choose Baal? Or the living God?”. But the people remained silent.
After entering Canaan, Joshua asked: “Whom will you serve?”. Then he declared his own choice: “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
David chose one thing: “One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life…” (Psalm 27:4)
Martha did not choose that one thing—she was distracted with worries and work. But Mary chose the good part—a choice that would never be taken away from her.
The Apostle Paul chose that one thing: “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13,14). And he ran a victorious race toward Christ Jesus.
One day, the Lord appeared to Solomon and said, “Ask! What shall I give you?” (1 Kings 3:5). Solomon humbled himself and prayed, “O God, give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people.” This humility was pleasing in the sight of the Lord.
King Ahasuerus once asked Queen Esther, “What is your request? It shall be given to you—up to half the kingdom!” (Esther 5:3). The one request Esther made brought deliverance to all the Jews. Their sorrow was turned into joy.
Children of God, choose that one thing. The Lord will surely do it for you.
