Jun 08 – The Blessings of Zion!
“The Lord who made heaven and earth bless you from Zion!” (Psalm 134:3)
How sweet the word blessing is! Everyone desires to be blessed. Children long for the blessing of their parents. People seek the blessings of teachers, elders, and honourable men. In the same way, we also need the blessing of the servants of God.
In many places in the Psalms, we read about the blessings of Zion. Consider the verse above. It speaks about the blessing that comes from Zion through the Lord. David blesses the people saying: “The Lord who made heaven and earth bless you from Zion!”
Again, the Book of Psalms says: “The Lord bless you out of Zion, and may you see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life.” (Psalm 128:5)
There are heavenly blessings that come from Zion, and there are also earthly blessings for this present life.
We read about earthly blessings in Deuteronomy 28:1–14: Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground, the increase of your cattle, and the flocks of your sheep. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.
At the same time, we also have the spiritual blessings of Zion. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3)
Yes, in Christ we possess glorious spiritual blessings from above. What are these blessings?
First, there is the joy of salvation that comes from Zion. When we realize that Jesus has forgiven our sins, broken our curses, and brought us into the fellowship of the children of God, it becomes a great blessing to us. What a wonderful blessing it is to know that we have been delivered from the power of hell and are now walking on the path to heaven!
Secondly, among the blessings of Zion, the anointing of the Holy Spirit is most important. How joyful it is when the Holy Spirit, like living water flowing from the Father’s throne, descends and fills our soul! Heavenly strength comes within us. The Spirit of life is poured into us. The gifts of Christ begin to operate in our lives. Is it not a glorious blessing when the fruits of the Spirit become evident in us?
Children of God, the Lord has promised: “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh.” (Joel 2:28). Will you receive it?
Verse for further meditation: “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” (3 John 1:2)
