Jul 05 – The Voice Yet to Come!
“The hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice.” (John 5:28)
The Lord who created the heavens and the earth speaks to us in many different ways. He speaks through nature (Psalm 19:1), through His Word (Proverbs 6:21–22), through His servants (Isaiah 30:20–21), through dreams and visions (Joel 2:28), through tongues (Isaiah 28:11), and through countless other means. He is even able to speak from heaven in such a way that the dead can hear His voice.
Lazarus had been dead for four days. Yet when the Lord cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!”, the dead man came out alive (John 11:43). Likewise, He raised Jairus’ daughter from the dead, saying, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” (Mark 5:41). He also raised the widow’s son at Nain, saying, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” (Luke 7:14). All of them had died, yet they responded to the voice of the Lord and rose to life.
Throughout history, countless millions have died. Some have perished in the sea, some in fire, some through sickness, some in accidents, and others in war. Yet regardless of how they died, the Bible declares: “And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt.” (Daniel 12:2)
The nature of a person’s resurrection will depend upon the spiritual condition in which he or she departed this life. Those who remain faithful to the end and are united with the Lord in love will have a part in the first resurrection.
The Scriptures declare: “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.” (Psalm 116:15) and “He shall enter into peace; they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.” (Isaiah 57:2)
A day is coming when the trumpet will sound, the archangel will raise his voice, and the Lord Himself will speak from heaven. At the sound of His mighty voice, the dead will rise.
The Bible says: “The hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.” (John 5:28–29)
Children of God, the voice that comes from heaven is powerful. It is a life-giving voice. Before the day comes when you hear His voice after death, listen to His voice while you are still alive. Walk in the power of His resurrection. Live a holy life. Shine as those who are righteous before Him.
Verse for further meditation: “By whose stripes you were healed.” (1 Peter 2:24)
