May 16 – I Give Thanks!

“And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry.” (1 Timothy 1:12)

The Apostle Paul, who taught, “In everything give thanks,” lived it out as a model. Even in the midst of problems and struggles, he continued to give thanks. When he was imprisoned in Rome, he still praised the Lord. Because praise was always on his lips, no one could take away his joy.

Writing from prison, he said: “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4). Only a person who praises God can remain joyful at all times.

When Paul reflected on what God had given him—forgiveness of sins, salvation, eternal life, divine joy, and peace—he could not remain silent. He exclaimed: “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians 9:15)

Not only for salvation, but he also thanked God because: He was counted faithful; and that he was entrusted with ministry.

If being a believer deserves endless thanksgiving, how much more does it mean to be entrusted with ministry! Paul marvelled at this truth: Even when he had weaknesses, God—who is always faithful—still counted him faithful and called him. That realization filled his heart with gratitude.

The Bible reminds us: “No man takes this honour to himself, but he who is called by God, just as Aaron was.” (Hebrews 5:4). Serving God is extra-ordinary and a holy calling.

Consider Dwight L. Moody. He began by bringing children to Sunday school. God honoured his faithfulness and raised him to become a mighty evangelist.

Dear child of God, if the Lord has placed a ministry in your hands: serve with reverence; serve with sincerity; and serve with faithfulness. Let your life be marked by gratitude and devotion. Let thanksgiving fill your heart—for He has counted you worthy to serve Him.

Verse for further meditation: “His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads.” (Revelation 22:4)
