Aug 13 – Please Him!

“I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.” (Psalm 40:8)

Above all, there must be within you a sincere desire to please the Lord. Without that longing, you may remain nothing more than a nominal Christian, bearing only the name without experiencing the reality of a life with Christ.

It is love for the Lord that moves us to please Him. That love creates within us a longing to walk hand in hand with Him. As we walk closely with the Lord, seeking to please Him, He, in turn, looks upon us with delight and says, “You are very dear to Me,” and, “O My love, you are beautiful.”

Sadhu Sundar Singh was a man who walked in close fellowship with the Lord, having completely dedicated his life to Him. On one occasion, a young prince warmly invited him to his palace. The prince showed a deep interest in Christianity and in spiritual matters.

He confessed, “Sir, although I have received countless blessings through Jesus Christ, I grieve over my weakness in not openly confessing Him. If I do so publicly, my own people will reject me, and I will lose my royal inheritance.”

Looking compassionately at the young prince, Sadhu Sundar Singh replied: “You will live on this earth only for a little while, but your life in heaven will be eternal. The kingdoms of this world will soon pass away, but the eternal kingdom will never end. If you walk hand in hand with Christ during your earthly life, He will lead you by the hand into His glorious heavenly kingdom, where He will remain with you forever. Therefore, ‘seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.'” (Matthew 6:33)

One of the highest experiences of the Christian life is this: you delight in God, and God delights in you. When that becomes your experience, every verse of Scripture will become precious to you – “sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” (Psalm 19:10)

The psalmist declares: “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law, he meditates day and night.” (Psalm 1:2)

David, who was determined to please the Lord, prayed: “Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law;

Indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart. Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, For I delight in it.” (Psalm 119:34–35)

Dear children of God, when your heart is set on pleasing the Lord, gathering with His people and worshipping in His house will become occasions of genuine joy rather than mere obligation. Therefore, love the Lord, worship Him in spirit and in truth, and rejoice in His presence.

Verse for further meditation: “And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands.” (Psalm 90:17)
