Aug 11 – The High Places!

“He dwells and abides on the rock, Upon the crag of the rock and the stronghold. From there he spies out the prey; His eyes observe from afar.” (Job 39:28–29)

The eagle soars gracefully at heights where no other bird can fly. In the same way, the soul of the redeemed rises above the attractions of this world, rejecting its fleeting pleasures and seeking the things that are above. It spreads its wings and ascends to the heavenly heights, soaring with Christ, who is exalted above all.

Writing to believers, the Apostle Paul says: “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above… Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Colossians 3:1–2)

You are called to seek the things above, to set your hope on heavenly realities, and to walk with the Lord in the high places. This is your divine calling.

Although you live in an earthly body, within you is an immortal soul. You have the hope of being transformed from glory to glory. One day, that soul will inherit the eternal kingdom of heaven. Therefore, you are called to live as one who is upright, holy, and pleasing to the Lord.

The eagle never chooses to dwell in low and worthless places. It does not search through heaps of garbage. Instead, it seeks the heights. Likewise, let your ambitions, thoughts, and aspirations be fixed on things that are above.

Ask yourself: Are your thoughts and pursuits centred on this present world, or are they focused on eternity?

Even today, many people continue to look at caste distinctions, auspicious dates, times, and stars when arranging marriages. Yet afterward, they quarrel bitterly over the smallest matters, often without demonstrating the love of God.

Others remain confined within narrow boundaries, finding fault with everyone else like the Pharisees and Sadducees. But the Lord calls you to higher things. He says, “Come with Me from Lebanon, my spouse.” (Song of Solomon 4:8)

As an airplane climbs higher and higher, the houses, buildings, lands, and possessions below appear smaller and smaller until they finally disappear from sight. At that height, one realizes how insignificant the world’s grandeur really is and how vainly mankind strives after it.

In the same way, as believers grow higher in their spiritual walk, worldly attractions and earthly attachments gradually lose their hold. The things that once seemed so important fade into insignificance. What once appeared valuable before salvation comes to be regarded as worthless – even as rubbish – after coming to know Christ.

Dear children of God, may the fullness of Christ, the inheritance He has prepared for you, and His eternal kingdom become the supreme desire and pursuit of your life.

Verse for further meditation: “He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.” (Revelation 21:7)
