Nov 07 – Through Nature!
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork” (Psalm 19:1).
Though the heavens appear silent and do not make the sounds of this world, they speak to us silently about the glory of God. They continually declare the work of His hands. “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).
At times, the clouds in the sky may look like lambs, while a large cloud may resemble a shepherd. We may feel as though the Lord is speaking lovingly to us through the clouds, saying, “I am the Good Shepherd. I gave My life for you, and I will lead you with love and care.”
He also speaks to us through the birds of the air. They neither sow nor reap, yet the Lord sustains them. He reminds us that if He provides for them, He will surely provide for us, for are we not more precious? (Matthew 6:26–27).
He also speaks through the flowers of the field. Look at them carefully, and you can hear the Lord’s voice through their beauty. He lovingly reminds us that even Solomon, in all his glory, was not clothed like one of them (Matthew 6:29).
Look at the seashore. The waves roar and crash against the shore. Through them, the Lord reminds us, “My children, I have set a boundary for the waves of the sea and commanded them, ‘Thus far you may come, but no farther.’ In the same way, however many waves of trouble may come into your lives, they have their limits. I will not allow you to be tested beyond what you are able to bear.”
Look at the vine, and the voice of the Lord will echo in your ears: “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser” (John 15:1). What a precious relationship! He lovingly says, “My son, My daughter, if you abide in Me, your life will become fruitful. You will bear much fruit, and My Father will be glorified through you.”
Look at the sunrise and the sunset. They speak to you about the changing seasons and the end of the age. Jesus said, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times” (Matthew 16:2–3).
Verse for further meditation: “When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near” (Matthew 24:32).
