Sep 30 – The Finger of God!

“Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, ‘This is the finger of God.’ But Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, just as the LORD had said.” (Exodus 8:19)

Moses performed many miracles before Pharaoh and brought various plagues upon Egypt. The magicians of Egypt also performed some signs by their enchantments. But when Moses struck the dust of the earth, all the dust throughout the land became lice. The magicians tried to reproduce this miracle, but they were unable to do so. Therefore, they said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.”

Yes, they recognised that the finger of God was at work through Moses. The works of man are limited. Even the works performed by magicians through the power of the enemy have their limitations. But the miracles accomplished by the finger of God are beyond human ability—mighty and supernatural works that no one else can perform.

The Lord has given you ten fingers on your hands. With these hands, you labour and work to provide for your family. But when you join your hands with the hands of the Lord, He can accomplish extraordinary things through you. Just as the Lord performed special miracles through the hands of the Apostle Paul, He can also perform remarkable works through your hands.

The Fingers of God Are Creative Fingers. “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,” (Psalm 8:3)

David looked at the heavens and marvelled at the work of God’s fingers. Everything that God has established bears witness to His infinite wisdom, His mighty power and His grace. The works of God’s hands are beyond human comprehension. The heavens, the moon and the stars continue to declare His greatness. And you too are a wonderful creation of His hands!

The Fingers of God Are Holy Fingers. God’s holy fingers wrote the Ten Commandments and gave them to Moses for the holy life of the children of Israel. “And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.” (Exodus 31:18)

How remarkable it is to think of writing upon tablets of stone with a finger! Yet the fingers of God were mighty enough to engrave His commandments upon the tablets. Today, may the Lord write His commandments not merely upon tablets of stone, but upon your heart and conscience. May He write His spiritual laws within you by His Spirit. Then you will grow continually in holiness and be transformed from glory to glory.

The Fingers of God Are Forgiving Fingers. When the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery before Jesus and stood ready to condemn her, Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger. Those writings brought forgiveness and deliverance to that woman.

Dear children of God, receive the glorious assurance of His forgiveness through the precious blood that flowed from His wounded hands, pierced for you.
