Aug 24 – Touch Him!
“…they begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well.” (Matthew 14:36)
The Apostle John writes: “…that which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life.” (1 John 1:1)
Many people physically touched the Lord Jesus during His earthly ministry, while others touched Him through faith.
A Canaanite woman came to Jesus burdened with a desperate need. Her daughter was grievously tormented by a demon. Being a Gentile, she could not easily approach Him. Moreover, Jesus said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”
Yet she was determined to reach Him. Do you know how she touched Him? She replied, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children’s crumbs.” (Mark 7:28) With her humility and unwavering faith, she touched the very heart of Jesus. Her daughter was delivered because of her faith-filled response.
Likewise, the centurion touched the Lord – not with his hands, but through words of faith. He said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.” (Matthew 8:8) Those words of faith touched the heart of Jesus. The Lord Himself marvelled and said that He had not found such great faith even in Israel. His servant was healed.
A man born blind also touched Jesus – not with his hands, but through his persistent cries. Again and again he pleaded, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” His earnest cry moved the heart of the Lord with compassion, and he received his sight.
A poor widow likewise touched the Lord’s heart. She willingly gave all that she had as an offering to God. Delighted by her wholehearted sacrifice, Jesus commended her, saying, “This poor widow has put in more than all the others.”
Zacchaeus also touched the Lord. Perched on a sycamore tree, he made a life-changing decision. He declared, “If I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.” That sincere repentance touched the heart of Jesus, and the Lord joyfully proclaimed, “Today salvation has come to this house.”
Dear child of God, you too can touch Jesus through your words of faith. When you come to Him in humble, believing prayer, He is able to grant you deliverance, healing, and every blessing you need.
Verse for further meditation: “Then the LORD put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me: ‘Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.’” (Jeremiah 1:9)
