Jul 17 – Exalted Today!
“And the LORD said to Joshua, ‘This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.’” (Joshua 3:7)
The Lord declares with determination, “Today I will exalt you.” When God Himself lifts a person up, no human being can ultimately bring that person down. The honour that comes from the Lord is lasting, meaningful, and glorious.
After the death of Moses, God chose Joshua and entrusted him with tremendous responsibilities. He was called to lead the people of Israel, wage war against the kings and nations of Canaan, and divide the Promised Land among the tribes. These were daunting tasks.
Joshua may well have wondered, “How can I accomplish all this? The people are often stubborn and prone to complain. How will they accept my leadership?” Seeing the concerns of His servant, the Lord graciously encouraged him: “This day I will begin to exalt you.” And just as He promised, God honoured Joshua before the entire nation.
In the same way, the Lord desires to lift and establish His children. That exaltation may come in the form of a promotion, a new responsibility, a greater sphere of influence, or a fresh opportunity for service. Because you have found favour in His sight, He is able to accomplish it even today.
The Bible says: “In Your hand is power and might; in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.” (1 Chronicles 29:12)
Yet there is something we must do. We must remain humble under His mighty hand. Scripture also declares: “If you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God… the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth.” (Deuteronomy 28:1,
Sadly, some who are exalted by God become proud. King Nebuchadnezzar is a striking example. The Lord gave him greatness, glory, and honour, yet instead of humbling himself, he became arrogant. Walking through his royal palace, he boasted: “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built… by my mighty power and for the honour of my majesty?” (Daniel 4:30)
While the words were still in his mouth, a voice came from heaven declaring that his kingdom would be taken from him. Because of his pride, he was driven from among men and lived like a beast of the field until he learned that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of men.
Children of God, remember that every blessing, position, achievement, and opportunity comes from the Lord. If He has already honoured you, walk humbly before Him. If you are still waiting for His promotion, trust His timing and remain faithful.
The Lord knows how to exalt those who humble themselves before Him.
Verse for further meditation: “At that time I will make you a name and a praise among all the peoples of the earth,” says the LORD. (Zephaniah 3:20)
