Jun 09 – Fortify Your Power!
“He who scatters has come up before your face. Man the fortress; watch the road; strengthen your flanks; fortify your power mightily.” (Nahum 2:1)
There is a sense of urgency in the verse above. It sounds like an urgent message from the God of heaven — a warning, like the blast of an alarm trumpet.
In 1990, Saddam Hussein’s army marched in massive numbers from Iraq to capture Kuwait. It happened at midnight, in a situation no one expected. Kuwait was unaware that the Iraqi forces were approaching. But the United States came to know of it and immediately sent an urgent warning to the King of Kuwait and his family. They were instructed to escape immediately to Saudi Arabia and were told which route to take.
Upon receiving the message, the king fled with his family in a helicopter, while others escaped by car. But the crown prince was fast asleep. Having spent the night drinking, feasting, and dancing, he paid no attention to the urgent warnings. The sound of danger alarms never reached his ears. As a result, he alone was captured by the Iraqi army and tragically died in gunfire.
Today, the Lord warns us in the same way. He warns us about Satan, saying, “The one who scatters is coming.” The Bible says: “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” (John 10:10)
He is a murderer and the father of lies. He is like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. He is like the cunning serpent. He is called Abaddon and Apollyon. Therefore, the Word warns us: “Man the fortress … fortify your power mightily.”
The strength of God’s people must not be wasted. Many become weak and unstable because they continue in sin. When their conscience condemns them, they are unable to stand against Satan. Those who should stand boldly like lions begin hiding like foxes. Those who should walk courageously flee like cowards. Those who should walk upright with dignity become bent over and defeated like drenched chickens.
But today the Lord says to you: “My son, My daughter, fortify your power mightily.”
If we are to fight for the Lord, our strength must increase. Children of God, be strengthened! Be strong in the Lord!
Verse for further meditation: “Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; do not spare; lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes.” (Isaiah 54:2)
