Jun 02 – The Scarlet Cord!

“Unless, when we come into the land, you bind this line of scarlet cord in the window… and unless you bring your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household to your own home.” (Joshua 2:17)

The Israelites gave Rahab an instruction that would protect her entire family from destruction: “Tie the scarlet cord in your window.” It was a sign—a covenant mark that would preserve Rahab’s household from the destruction of Jericho.

Though Rahab had lived as a harlot and earned her living through a sinful lifestyle, she had a revelation concerning the Lord. She declared: “I know that the Lord has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us… For the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.” (Joshua 2:9,11)

That scarlet cord Rahab tied points to the blood of Jesus Christ. His blood alone has the power to hide and protect us in the secret place of the Most High and under the shadow of the Almighty. His blood stands as our fortress and wall of protection around us. When we repeatedly confess, “The blood of Jesus Christ gives victory,” faith rises within us that we are safely hidden in Christ’s refuge.

When the destroying angel passed through Egypt, every house marked by the blood of the lamb was spared. But every house without the mark of blood experienced destruction. The firstborn died, and even the livestock perished (Exodus 12:22–23). Therefore, we too must always hide ourselves under the blood of Christ.

The Apostle Peter writes: “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:2)

Those upon whom the seal of Christ’s blood rests—those covered by the covenant mark of His blood—cannot truly be overcome by the world, the flesh, or the devil. No fiery darts of Satan can prevail against them.

When we come to the Cross, we come: “…to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.” (Hebrews 12:24)

By His blood, our sins are washed away, our iniquities are forgiven, the backbone of curses is broken, diseases are healed, Satan’s head is crushed, and our lives are delivered.

Verse for further meditation: “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” (Revelation 12:11)
