May 07 – The Direction of Victory!
“For exaltation comes neither from the east nor from the west nor from the south.” (Psalm 75:6)
The book of Psalms contains 150 psalms. Of these, 73 were written by David, 12 by Asaph, 11 by the sons of Korah, 2 by Solomon, 1 by Moses, and 1 by Ethan, while the rest are by unknown authors. Through these psalms, we understand the hearts of God’s people.
In today’s verse, Asaph reveals a powerful truth: victory does not come from any earthly direction—not from the east, west, or wilderness.
When enemies rose against Israel, they often looked around for help: Would Egypt from the east come to their aid? Would armies from the west arrive? They waited and hoped—but no help came.
So where should we look? King David answers: “I will lift up my eyes to the hills—from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1–2)
The Lord alone is our helper. Whether few or many, victory is always in His hands.
When countless Midianites—like sand on the seashore—came against Israel, Gideon did not look to any direction for help. He looked upward and depended on God. With just 300 men, and with God on his side, he defeated the entire Midianite army.
Likewise, when King Hezekiah faced the threat of the mighty Assyrian army, he did not look east or west for help. Instead, he turned to the Lord. What happened? God sent one angel, and in a single night, 185,000 Assyrian soldiers were struck down (Isaiah 37:36).
Dear child of God, you may be surrounded by problems today. You may be wondering, “Who will deliver me?” Here is God’s promise: Victory will not come from any human source—it comes from the Lord alone.
Lift your eyes upward. Your help is on the way.
Verse for further meditation: “Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57)
