Jul 31 – Meditate on His Wonders!
“My spirit is overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is distressed. I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands.” (Psalm 143:4–5)
Notice the three expressions found in this verse: I remember, I meditate, and I muse. These reveal a beautiful pattern for spiritual meditation.
First, remember the days of old. It is important to reflect on the humble circumstances from which the Lord brought you. Never forget how lovingly He sought you, lifted you up, and made you His own child.
I often think about my earlier years. I remember the teachers who instructed me from my earliest school days, the friends God brought into my life, and the many ways the Lord graciously elevated and blessed me among them. As I reflect on these things, my heart overflows with gratitude for His unfailing love.
Indeed, His works are worthy of continual meditation. How marvelous are the works of His hands! Yet we must not stop there. The psalmist says: “Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; talk of all His wondrous works!” (Psalm 105:2)
As Gideon reflected upon the mighty works of God, a question arose within him: “Why are we not seeing today the great things that God did for our fathers?” Therefore, when the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, Gideon asked:
“O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about?” (Judges 6:13)
What was the result of such meditation? Gideon rose up in faith. He became convinced that the God who was with his forefathers was also with him. Divine strength came upon him, and with only three hundred men he defeated the vast Midianite army that was as numerous as the sand on the seashore.
A mighty servant of God once said: “The secret of success in my ministry is meditation on Calvary. When I spend days contemplating the Cross and then go forth to preach, I witness the mighty power of God at work.”
Children of God, the more you meditate on the Lord, the more you will grow in personal holiness. The deeper your meditation, the deeper your fellowship with God will become.
Reflect often on His faithfulness. Recall His mercies. Meditate on His mighty works. Above all, keep your eyes fixed upon Christ and His finished work at Calvary.
Verse for further meditation: “For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” (1 Corinthians 2:2)
