Jul 23 – The Gift of Discernment!

“If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority.” (John 7:17)

When a person wholeheartedly surrenders himself to do the will of God, he receives many blessings. One of those precious blessings is divine wisdom and spiritual understanding. The gift of discernment begins to operate in his life.

Cain and Abel were brothers. One day, they both desired to bring an offering to the Lord. Cain simply brought some of the produce of the ground as an offering. Abel, however, desired to offer a sacrifice according to the will of God.

He carefully considered what would be pleasing to the Lord, what kind of offering God would accept, and what would bring joy to His heart. As he aligned his heart with the heart of God, he perceived by faith that God would one day give His only begotten Son as the Lamb for the world. Therefore, Abel offered a lamb as his sacrifice. The Lord accepted that offering, and it became a more excellent sacrifice.

Whoever yields himself to do the will of God will come to know the mind of God. He will recognize sound doctrine. He will understand the path he ought to walk in. The Lord will surely grant him heavenly revelation and spiritual insight.

Sound doctrine is essential to the Christian life. It serves as the foundation of our spiritual growth and stability. It is like refreshing rain upon tender plants. The Lord declared: “Let my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distil as the dew, as raindrops on the tender herb, and as showers on the grass.” (Deuteronomy 32:2)

At the same time, there are false teachings against which we must be vigilant. Many false prophets come in sheep’s clothing while inwardly they are wolves. Deceivers and antichrists arise, displaying signs and wonders to mislead people. Yet the person who is fully committed to doing the will of God will not be easily led astray. He will recognize the truth and remain steadfast in sound doctrine.

When we turn our hearts toward knowing and obeying God’s will, He reveals to us the mysteries of His gracious purpose (Ephesians 1:9–10).

Why did the Lord entrust such profound heavenly revelations to the Apostle Paul? Because Paul surrendered himself completely and prayed: “Lord, what do You want me to do?” (Acts 9:6). His wholehearted submission to the will of God opened the door to extraordinary revelation and understanding.

Children of God, consecrate yourselves to walk in the will of the Lord. As you seek to obey Him, He will grant you wisdom, discernment, and the knowledge of His ways.

Verse for further meditation: “I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the LORD, who call you by your name, am the God of Israel.” (Isaiah 45:3)
