Oct 05 – The Lord Reigns!

“The LORD has established His throne in heaven, And His kingdom rules over all.” (Psalm 103:19)

Regardless of who may be holding political power in the world today, the throne of heaven belongs to our Lord. His kingdom rules over all. He possesses all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18).

He is the King of kings and Lord of lords (Revelation 19:16). He is seated upon the high and exalted throne, ruling over all things. Moreover, He is our Great High Priest who intercedes for us. He is also the Judge of all the earth who will execute perfect justice on our behalf.

During the days of Isaiah, a king named Uzziah reigned with great pride. He became so confident in his authority that he presumed he could do whatever he wished, and he entered the temple to burn incense. Although the priests repeatedly warned him and tried to stop him, he would not listen. Instead, he became angry with the priests. Immediately, the Lord struck King Uzziah, and he became a leper. He remained a leper until the day of his death.

When King Uzziah died, the Lord opened the eyes of Isaiah. The prophet saw the Lord seated upon a high and lofty throne. What a glorious sight!

Kings may rise in this world, and kings may pass away. Governments may change. Rulers may come and go. But the Lord is the One who “removes kings, and raises up kings” (Daniel 2:21).

He remains unchanging, seated upon His eternal throne forever. His reign has no end. He is the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End.

Perhaps you have been working in government service, and several senior officers may have come and gone over the years. Some may have treated you very harshly. Some may have repeatedly accused you without reason. Others may have hindered your progress and prevented you from moving forward. Nevertheless, keep your eyes fixed upon the Lord. The psalmist says: “Our eyes look to the LORD our God.” (Psalm 123:2)

Even when it may seem that the answer is delayed, you can be certain that the Lord will act justly and ultimately bring about what is good for you. Why? Because He is seated upon the throne. The Scripture says: “Ruler against ruler.” (Jeremiah 51:46)

The Babylonian Empire came to rule over Israel. The Medo-Persian Empire then arose and overthrew Babylon. The Greeks subsequently came to rule over the Greeks’ predecessors, and later the Romans came to rule over the Greeks. In the same way, India too has been ruled by many kings and dynasties throughout its history. But the Lord continues to reign even today as the King of kings.

He is our King of kings and Lord of lords. He alone possesses all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, whatever changes may take place around you, do not be shaken. Your confidence is not ultimately in earthly rulers or earthly systems, but in the One who sits upon the eternal throne.

Verse for further meditation: “He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” (Luke 1:33)
