Oct 04 – A Time to Seek!
“Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, till He comes and rains righteousness on you.” (Hosea 10:12)
In the verse above, the prophet Hosea reminds us that this is not merely the day time; it is a time to seek the Lord.
Seek the Lord with all your heart and with all your soul. Seek Him with fasting and prayer. The Bible says, “Seek, and you will find.” Other translations convey the thought, “Keep on seeking, and you will find.” We are therefore called to continually and earnestly seek the Lord.
The Shulamite woman says: “By night on my bed I sought the one I love; I sought him, but I did not find him. I will rise now,” I said, “And go about the city; In the streets and in the squares, I will seek the one I love.” I sought him, but I did not find him… When I found the one, I love, I held him and would not let him go, Until I had brought him to the house of my mother, And into the chamber of her who conceived me. (Song of Solomon 3:1-2,4)
Every day, during your prayer time, seek the face of the Lord. Be eager to know what He desires to speak to you. Long to hear His voice and understand His will for your life. The Bible says: “If you seek Him, He will be found by you.” (2 Chronicles 15:2)
On the one hand, we seek Him. On the other hand, He is seeking us. Because of His great love and affection for us, He left heaven and came down to earth to seek us. He walked through rocky and thorny paths in search of us. It was because of His seeking love for the lost that Jesus gave us the beautiful truths recorded in Luke 15.
There we read the parable of the good shepherd who searches for the lost sheep until he finds it; the woman who diligently searches for the lost silver coin until she finds it; and the father who longs for and eagerly waits for his lost son to return home.
The Lord is seeking you—therefore, you must seek Him too. The Lord loves you—therefore, you must love Him too. This is a time to seek the Lord earnestly and wholeheartedly.
Look at the ants. They make good use of their time. When it is the season to gather food, they diligently search for nourishment and store up their food before the rainy season arrives. Because they prepare beforehand, they are able to face the rainy season without anxiety and in peace.
In the same way, before a time of spiritual famine comes—a time when the Word of God may not be readily available—read and meditate upon the Word of God, which is Spirit and life. Read good spiritual books and receive the benefit they offer. Yes, this is a time to seek the Lord and to seek His Word.
Verse for further meditation: “He who gathers in summer is a wise son; He who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.” (Proverbs 10:5)
