Aug 07 – The God of Wisdom!

“For the Lord is the God of knowledge; And by Him actions are weighed.” (1 Samuel 2:3)

In 1 Samuel chapter 2, we read of Hannah’s joyful song of praise. After exalting the beauty of the Lord’s holiness, she next magnified His infinite wisdom. The more you praise the Lord for His holiness, the more you will grow in holiness. Likewise, the more you praise Him for His wisdom, the more you will abound in godly wisdom.

What is divine wisdom? It is the wisdom by which God breaks the bows of the mighty and girds the weak with strength. It is the wisdom that enables Him to bless the barren woman with children and turn her reproach into rejoicing. There is the wisdom of this world, the natural wisdom of mankind, and even the deceptive wisdom of Satan. But the wisdom of the Lord is immeasurable and beyond comparison. He freely gives wisdom to those who lack it.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5) The Scriptures also declare: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” (Proverbs 1:7)

King Saul possessed no strategy to defeat Goliath. When David stepped forward, Saul only discouraged him. True divine wisdom begins when we align our thoughts with the mind of God. It was through God’s wisdom, coupled with unwavering faith and holy zeal, that David overcame the giant with remarkable ease.

The wisdom of the Lord surpasses every other kind of wisdom. Ask Him for wisdom. Be filled with the Spirit who imparts wisdom. Seek the spiritual gift of the word of wisdom, through which the Holy Spirit reveals divine insight for particular situations.

When Egypt faced seven years of severe famine, the nation needed a man endowed with wisdom to prepare for what lay ahead. Pharaoh recognized that man in Joseph and declared: “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you.” (Genesis 41:39) As a result, Joseph was appointed ruler over Egypt, second only to Pharaoh himself.

Turn your eyes to the Lord. He is able to make even the simple wise. You need His wisdom not only for great responsibilities but also for the ordinary affairs of daily life. Wisdom is needed in your conversations, your relationships, your decisions, and your conduct. The Lord will place His wisdom upon your lips. Then you will realize that it is not merely you who are speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. “For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.” (Matthew 10:20)

Dear children of God, this is the wisdom and understanding that the Lord desires to give His people. The Scriptures declare: “Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes, and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’” (Deuteronomy 4:6)

Verse for further meditation: “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.” (James 3:17)
