Aug 06 – My Heart Rejoices!

“My heart rejoices in the Lord; My horn is exalted in the Lord.” (1 Samuel 2:1)

Here we witness Hannah’s overflowing joy. When the Lord heard her earnest prayer and blessed her with the gift of Samuel, she responded with heartfelt gratitude: “For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition which I asked of Him.” (1 Samuel 1:27)

Having received such a wonderful blessing from the Lord, Hannah could no longer contain the joy that filled her heart. First Samuel chapter 2 begins with the words, “And Hannah prayed…” and concludes with her offering praise to God. Thus, in this beautiful passage we see Hannah’s prayer, her petition, her thanksgiving, and above all, her rejoicing in the Lord.

Dear children of God, if you sincerely pour out your heart before the Lord and bring your petitions to Him, your days of sorrow will not last for long. The Lord will surely wipe away your tears and grant you seasons of rejoicing.

What first filled Hannah’s heart with joy was the holiness of God. She declared: “No one is holy like the Lord,

For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.” (1 Samuel 2:2)

The world has known many philosophers, founders of religions, sages, mystics, and even those who have claimed to be divine. Yet none can be compared with the glorious holiness of the Lord. He is not only perfectly holy Himself, but He also imparts His holiness to His children. If God alone were holy without making His people holy, what benefit would His holiness be to us? Instead, He lovingly invites us: “Be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16)

The Lord graciously shares His own holiness with those who belong to Him. It is the Lord’s very nature to give generously to His children. He possesses the power, the grace, and the mercy to bestow every good gift. Because He sanctifies His people, He is known as Jehovah M’Kaddesh – “The Lord Who Sanctifies You.”

As Hannah beheld the beauty of the Lord’s holiness, her rejoicing naturally led her into worship. She reached the peaks of adoration and exclaimed: “No one is holy like the Lord…Nor is there any rock like our God.” (1 Samuel 2:2)

Likewise, when you behold the beauty of the Lord’s holiness, no one needs to persuade or compel you to praise Him. Your heart will overflow spontaneously with thanksgiving and worship.

Dear children of God, worship the Lord, offer Him your praise, and continue to ascend from one level of holiness to another, drawing ever nearer to His glorious presence.

Verse for further meditation: “My soul magnifies the Lord, And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.” (Luke 1:46–47)
