Aug 05 – The Commander of the Lord’s Army!

“And He said, ‘No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.’” (Joshua 5:14)

Someone once produced a video entitled “The Lord’s Commanders.” It highlighted a number of God’s servants who were mightily used by the Lord and explained the spiritual secrets behind their fruitful ministries and the many souls they won for Christ. It was filled with valuable spiritual lessons and profound truths.

Indeed, when the Lord looks at you, He sees a warrior. He sees one who is called to serve as a commander in His army. Whenever you go forth to wage the Lord’s battles, the hosts of heaven stand with you. The Lord appoints His mighty angels to minister on your behalf. “Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14)

When a local government official goes on an inspection, a few assistants usually accompany him. A district-level officer may travel with many more, while a cabinet minister is often accompanied by an even larger entourage. The higher the authority, the greater the number of those assigned to assist, protect, and carry out the official’s instructions.

Likewise, in the Roman Empire, centurions were appointed to command one hundred soldiers, each ready to carry out their orders. Above them were commanders who led thousands of troops. Military authority was exercised through clearly defined ranks and responsibilities.

In a similar way, Satan also has an organized kingdom. A sorcerer who claims to command demonic spirits may imagine himself to be like a military commander. Such powers are often directed against the work of Christ, against the health of God’s servants, and against the unity of Christian families. In such a spiritual conflict, how much more should we, as servants of the Lord, stand firm and fight the good fight of faith!

The Lord sees you as one of His commanders. To wage war against Satan, He has placed the power of His own blood in your hands. “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” (Revelation 12:11)

He has also given you the mighty name of Jesus as your weapon. Take up “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Let praise to the Lord and fervent prayer become your spiritual weapons, empowered by God Himself. Use them boldly and faithfully.

Dear children of God, you are called to be soldiers of Christ, faithful commanders in His service, and courageous warriors in the Lord’s army.
