Jul 22 – A Banquet!

“Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.”’” (Matthew 22:4)

Over the past few days, we have been meditating on the many wonderful things that the Lord has prepared for His people. One of those glorious provisions is a heavenly banquet. The Lord has prepared a great feast for you and me in the heavenly realms.

The Bible declares: “Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” “Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!” (Revelation 19:7,9)

The prophet Isaiah also speaks of this magnificent feast: “And in this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all people a feast of choice pieces, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of well-refined wines on the lees.” (Isaiah 25:6)

At that glorious banquet, we shall sit with Christ, the Bridegroom of our souls, as His beloved Bride. The King of kings and Lord of lords will be crowned in majesty and glory. There, love will reign supreme. Songs of praise, joyful worship, and triumphant celebration will fill the atmosphere in a manner beyond human description.

Scripture says: “A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes merry.” (Ecclesiastes 10:19 This heavenly banquet has been prepared for the joy of the saints who endured hardships on earth and for the servants of God who sowed the seeds of the Gospel with tears.

There will be no more sorrow, pain, or disappointment. As we sit at the Lord’s table, every burden will disappear forever. The words of the Song of Solomon beautifully express this truth: “He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.” (Song of Solomon 2:4)

The world arranges its feasts for pleasure, indulgence, and earthly celebration. But the banquet prepared by the Lord is altogether different. Only the redeemed and sanctified people of God will partake in it. Sin will have no place there, and nothing unclean will enter that glorious gathering.

Children of God, how diligently we should prepare ourselves for that heavenly feast! Clothed in the garments of salvation and covered with the robe of righteousness, we shall rejoice together with the saints of both the Old and New Testaments. The day is drawing near. Let us live in readiness for that glorious celebration.

Verse for further meditation: “A merry heart has a continual feast.” “Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a fatted calf with hatred.” (Proverbs 15:15,17)
