May 17 – He Will Deliver!
“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” (Psalm 34:19)
We need not wonder, “Why do we face so many troubles?” The truth is—God’s children often face more trials than others of the world. If we lived according to the ways of the world, the world would accept us. But when we choose a life of consecration, holiness, and devotion to God, the world, the flesh, and the devil will surely oppose us. “All who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” (2 Timothy 3:12)
Jesus never promised a life of comfort. He said: “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). He Himself walked the path of suffering and carried the cross. And He said, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” (Matthew 16:24)
The disciples walked this same path: They were persecuted by the Jews, they faced opposition from the Roman authorities, and many were martyred for their faith in Christ Jesus. Yet they pressed on, valuing Christ above life itself. “Of whom the world was not worthy…” (Hebrews 11:38)
Why did they endure such suffering? “That they might obtain a better resurrection.” (Hebrews 11:35)
But for those who walk the path of suffering for Christ, God promises deliverance and glory. Yes, troubles may be many—but deliverance is certain.
Consider Daniel. Because of his righteousness, he faced jealousy and was thrown into the lions’ den. But what happened? The Lord stood with him; The Lord shut the mouth of the lions; and the Lord delivered him.
Dear child of God, We enter the Kingdom of God through many tribulations. But you need to remember one thing very clearly: The present sufferings are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come. No matter how many afflictions may come your way—the Lord will deliver you from them all.
Verse for further meditation: “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him… I will set him on high, because he has known My name.” (Psalm 91:14)
