May 09 – I Have Overcome the World!
“In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
A person is tested in three ways:
- By his own desires—being drawn away and enticed (James 1:13),
- By Satan, the tempter (Matthew 4:3; 2 Corinthians 2:11) and
- By God Himself.
We live in a world full of temptations. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life constantly press against God’s children.
When one falls into temptation: conscience begins to accuse; joy disappears; discouragement sets in. That is why the Lord taught us to pray: “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” (Matthew 6:13)
Our first parents, Adam and Eve, fell into temptation. By eating the forbidden fruit, sin entered the world—bringing curse, sickness, and death.
But now, the Lord has given us victory over temptation through His precious blood and a life of testimony. The Bible says: “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” (Revelation 12:11)
In times of testing, God refines His people like gold through trials:
- Moses was shaped in the wilderness
- Joseph in the prison
- David in mountains and caves
- Job through intense suffering
- Paul through beatings and persecutions
- John through isolation on the island of Patmos
These sufferings strengthen the soul and produce divine endurance. “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Romans 8:36–37)
Dear child of God, in times of struggle, keep your eyes fixed on Christ. A great cloud of witnesses is watching how you endure your trials. Stand firm!
“Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life.” (James 1:12)
Verse for further meditation: “The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:2)
