Oct 03 – The Time of His Coming!

“Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?” (Luke 12:56)

It is the Lord’s desire that we discern and understand the times in which we are living.

Scientists use various instruments to observe atmospheric conditions and are able to identify changes in the weather almost immediately. They then communicate their forecasts to people through television and other media.

In some villages, farmers may have little formal education, yet by simply observing the sky and seeing the clouds turning red, they are able to sense that rain is coming.

Likewise, animals are often able to sense an approaching tsunami or violent disturbance in the sea many hours before it occurs. They instinctively move to safer places.

Jesus said: “Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.” (Matthew 16:2–3)

The redness of the sky and the gathering clouds can be signs of changing weather. In the same way, there are signs that point to the nearness of Christ’s coming.

The latter rain is being poured out in many places. We can see the anointing of the Holy Spirit being poured out upon people in different parts of the world.

During his generation, Noah repeatedly warned the people to make use of the time God had given them. Bible scholars say that Noah faithfully preached and lovingly warned the people for 120 years. But the people remained indifferent. They failed to heed the warning God was giving them through Noah.

Then, suddenly, the great flood came. The windows of heaven were opened, and the waters began to pour down. On one hand, the floodwaters lifted the ark above the earth; on the other hand, they brought God’s judgment upon the disobedient people and destroyed them.

Even today, the mighty rain of the Holy Spirit is being poured out in many places. At Christ’s coming, He will lift up His Church—the ark of salvation—and take her to be with Him. At the same time, terrible judgment will come upon the people of the world.

We cannot specify the exact day or hour when Christ will return. Yet we can clearly see the signs that indicate that the time of His coming is very near.

Children of God, make use of every gracious moment that God has given you. If you faithfully use your time and opportunities for the Lord, you will be able to meet Christ with joy on the day of His coming and rejoice in His presence. You will dwell with the Lord forever.

Verse for further meditation: “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.” (Revelation 22:12)
