Aug 18 – I Sought Him!

“By night on my bed I sought the one I love; I sought him, but I did not find him. ‘I will rise now,’ I said, ‘And go about the city; In the streets and in the squares, I will seek the one I love.’” (Song of Solomon 3:1–2)

The nighttime is one of God’s precious gifts to mankind. It is during the night that we sleep and find rest. The burdens and anxieties of the day are greatly eased, and when we rise early the next morning, refreshed and strengthened, we are better able to praise the Lord with renewed enthusiasm.

At the same time, Satan seeks to use the night for his evil purposes. He sows weeds into our thoughts and imaginations, bringing impure dreams and disturbing nightmares. It is also during the night that thieves and robbers often carry out their deeds.

The night is likewise the time when venomous creatures roam about, seeking whom they may strike with their poison. The Bible speaks of “the terror by night” (Psalm 91:5) and “the pestilence that walks in darkness” (Psalm 91:6).

If you spend time with the Lover of your soul in prayer before you retire for the night, the Lord will protect you so that no harm comes near you. When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him. What a glorious experience it is to lie down praising the Lord until sleep overtakes you, praying in the Spirit and worshipping Him with a heart full of His presence!

Nearly one-third of a person’s life is spent sleeping. For some, however, that time is wasted. Unable to sleep, they toss restlessly in bed, their minds troubled by endless worries and anxieties. Others are overcome by a spirit of deep slumber, lying like lifeless logs and wasting a significant portion of the life God has given them.

But the Shulamite says, “By night on my bed I sought the one I love.” (Song of Solomon 3:1)

The nighttime is a wonderful opportunity to seek the Lord. It is a time to pour out our griefs and heartaches before the Lover of our souls and seek His comfort and guidance. It is the time to cast all our burdens and cares upon Him and receive His consolation and peace.

When you pray, “Lord, grant me heavenly visions. Teach me Your ways during this night. Reveal Your will to me,” the Lord is able to show you heavenly revelations through dreams and visions.

Dear children of God, the Lord will surely make known His will and even reveal things to come to His children.

Verse for further meditation: “Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.” (Amos 3:7)
