Aug 15 – Rejoice with Singing!

“Let the saints be joyful in glory; Let them sing aloud on their beds.” (Psalm 149:5)

Those who spend their days doing the will of God and pleasing the Lord will surely end their evenings rejoicing in His glory and singing aloud upon their beds.

The night brings joy to some, but sorrow to others. There was a night when Egypt was filled with wailing, tears, and mourning because the firstborn of both man and beast were struck down by the destroying angel. But in every Israelite home where the blood of the lamb had been applied in faith to the doorposts, there was joy and rejoicing. They praised the Lord, remembering His gracious protection over them.

Likewise, those who have lived holy lives throughout the day, overcoming Satan’s temptations and walking in victory, retire to their beds with grateful hearts, singing praises as they reflect on the Lord’s abundant mercies. Others, however, lament like this: “The joy of our heart has ceased; Our dance has turned into mourning. …

Woe to us, for we have sinned!” (Lamentations 5:15–16)

Children of God, guard yourselves lest you become enslaved by sin.

King Ahab was one who often went to his bed in deep sorrow. His happiness vanished because he coveted Naboth’s vineyard. When Naboth refused both the king’s money and the offer of another vineyard, Ahab became greatly discouraged. The Bible says that he turned his face toward the wall and lay down on his bed. Those who lack contentment often end their day in such misery.

At times, disagreements arise between husband and wife. If a husband does not immediately buy the sari or jewellery his wife desires, she may become upset, saying, “If it were for your mother, you would buy it without hesitation. In this house, I am treated like a servant,” and then turn away in anger. Those who magnify small matters often rob themselves of peaceful sleep.

Now consider Paul and Silas. They had been severely beaten, and their feet were fastened in the stocks. Yet they did not complain or murmur. The love and sacrifice of the Lord of Calvary filled their hearts with joy. Even in prison, they sang praises triumphantly to God.

The Bible declares: “The righteous sings and rejoices.” (Proverbs 29:6) And again: “But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You.” (Psalm 5:11)

Dear children of God, you have been called to praise the Lord, to sing unto Him, and to delight His heart with your worship.
